Asbestos was a very common building material up until the late 20st century because of its strength, and for its high resilience against electrical and heat damage. Eventually, asbestos was named as the main causative agent of several serious illnesses, including a malignant form of lung cancer known as mesothelioma. Asbestos is now banned in manufacturing; however, it can still be found in brake pads, clutch plates and hood lining of some vehicles.
